WIA Youth Success Story Archive
Italy Dalton

IMAGEOriginally from Southern California, Italy Dalton and her mother moved to the Yuba-Sutter Area in 2008.  Italy had to make some major adjustments from living in a large area to a much smaller community not to mention starting at a new school and trying to make new friends.

Italy enrolled at Albert Powell High School her sophomore year and became very involved in her school.  During this time, she was an Office Aide and the head of the Yearbook and Prom Committees.  She also participated in the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Youth Program through the Sutter County One Stop.  While participating in this program, she was placed in a work experience as a Stock Clerk at Walgreens where she received an “Excellent” on all areas of her performance evaluation.

In taking steps to pursue her long term goal of nursing, Italy decided to enroll in the C.N.A. (Certified Nurse’s Aide) classes at the Sutter County One Stop.  Doing all of this at the same time while completing her high school education.  She successfully completed the C.N.A. classes on May 14th and four days later completed her high school diploma (early by two weeks).  Italy was also chosen to give a speech at her graduation on June 3rd.   Italy now is waiting to take her state C.N.A. exam to become licensed in the state of California.  Italy’s life is definitely a “Success Story” that we wanted to share and we wish her all of the best in her future.

Congratulations to our brother, sister team for successfully completing Job Search Techniques. During their participation in this workshop they demonstrated Team Work, Goal Attainment, Organizational Skills, natural Leadership skills and how to overcome Language barriers (they both speak 3 languages).  These 2 young adults are well on their way to a very positive and productive future
Kevin Clark

IMAGEFor Kevin Clark high school has been more than just four years of academics, it has been a series of great opportunities for which he has chosen to become involved.  Kevin is a Senior at Live Oak High School and is preparing to graduate soon.  In high school, he has been involved in many extracurricular activities.  He was a member of the Track and Field Team for four years where he ran the 100, 200, and 400 meter relay races.  Kevin has also been a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA) for four years.

Last year he participated as a member of the stage crew for the school play, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire.  One of Kevin’s fondest memories of high school was when he dressed up as the mascot and represented LOHS at the Lion at the “Run Drugs Out of Town” event at River Valley High School.  Kevin’s long term career goals have always included working in the Culinary Arts.  During high school, he worked in the school’s coffee and lunch café called the Lion’s Den for approximately two years.  Through the Workability I Program, Kevin was placed at the Pizza Factory as a Pizza Maker.  He has worked really hard and states that his bosses comment that he is a “hard worker” who does “what he is asked to do” and “shows up when he is scheduled to.”

After about 5 months of training, Kevin was offered a job by the owners of the Pizza Factory so he could continue to work there after his work experience hours are completed.  Congratulations Kevin on getting hired at the Pizza Factory and on your many high school accomplishments!

Hardeep Singh

IMAGEHardeep is a very special young man. He is always happy, eager to do more that asked and truly enjoys people. He successfully completed our Summer Youth Program and is successfully completing not only our year round program but also graduating from River Valley High in June. During this school year Hardeep was placed in a work experience at Walgreens where he was hired at the end of his work experience. Hardeep plans on continuing his part time position at Walgreens and is enrolled to start Yuba College in the fall.

Dulcina Rojo

IMAGEDulcina Rojo came to the Sutter County One Stop because she was interested in finding employment. She had not worked before and was seeking as many tools and resources she could take advantage to make a better future for herself. She was enrolled into the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Program. Dulcina attended and completed the Job Search Techniques workshop. Dulcina practiced her interviewing skills, created a professional resume and learned about employer expectations. Dulcina is currently placed on a work experience at Gaiser Pets and is doing an excellent job.

Dulcina is also very close to completing her high school education. Instead of waiting until after she graduated to sign up for college, Dulcina got a jump start and decided to enroll at college too! Balancing high school, college and a job can be difficult at times, but Dulcina is very committed to making a better future for herself and setting a good example for her siblings and friends. Way to go Dulcina!

Isamar Uriostegui

IMAGWEIsamar Uriostegui is a Senior at Albert Powell High School.  She participated in the WIA Summer Youth Program this past summer where she successfully completed a Work Readiness Class and also a special weeklong workshop for Young Entrepreneurs.  When her workshops were completed she was placed working at Lincoln Elementary School as a Custodial Assistant.  Her supervisor commented on what a, “hard worker” Isamar was and she even received a bonus award for Perfect Attendance at the worksite.

Isamar enjoyed the program so much that she applied for the WIA program again this fall with the goal to pursue work experience leading to her long term goal of a Child Care Worker.  Isamar has a great attitude and gives 100% to all of her commitments.
