The Microsoft Certification program helps fill the demand for qualified knowledgeable workers in the modern workplace. At the same time, Office Specialist helps employers assess employee skills. Thousands of Office Specialist-certified individuals have demonstrated increased productivity and proven ability to utilize the advanced features of MS Office Professional.

FAQ about Computer Training

How can I register for the Computer Classes?
Come to the Sutter County One Stop or call (530) 822-5120 and sign-up for the ROP Business Courses Information Meeting.  The information meeting will provide all the information you need to decide which course is right for you.  Complete the assessment testing, next attend the Registration Meeting to complete the necessary forms, make sure to pay relevant fees and have your materials ready for the first day of class.

Are there evening classes available?
No, not at this time through the ROP program.  However, there is an evening course offered through the Adult Education program.  You may call (530) 822-5120 for more information.

Do I have to know how to use a computer before I start class?
No.  Courses are available for beginner, intermediate and advanced computer users.

How often do the classes start?
Bi-weekly. Call the Sutter One-Stop, (530) 822-5120, to sign up for the ROP Business Courses Information Meeting.

What is the fee for taking the computer classes?
There is a mandatory copy fee of $15.00 for each course you enroll in and a $50 registration fee for each course you enroll in.  Books and supplies must be purchased by the student. There is a fee for the Microsoft Office Specialist Certification exams and the IC3 Certification exams should you chose to pursue certification.

Will I receive college credit for these courses?
Introduction to Word, Advanced Word, Introduction to Excel, Advanced Excel, Beginning Business Computers, and PowerPoint are articulated with Yuba College.

Do I need know how to type to take computer classes?
It is best if you know the keyboard by touch.

Are classes open entry/open exit, or are there specific start dates?
Classes are open entry/open exit with specific registration dates.
The student then works at their own pace but needs to finish the course in a timely manner (with the course hours.)

Is there a waiting list or can I enroll in classes right away?
Start dates are ongoing. Call (530) 822-5120 for specific dates.

Do I need a referral to take classes or are they open to the public?
You do not need a referral. Classes are open to the public.

Do I need to purchase textbooks and supplies right away? Will the instructor let us know where to purchase the textbooks and supplies?
Books should be purchased before the class start date. The instructor will advise where to purchase books and supplies. 

What financial resources are available?
WIA (Workforce Investment Act) counselors are available for eligibility evaluation. Students may apply for assistance in purchasing Microsoft Certification exams through the Student Body Microsoft Certification fund.

Will I have home work?
Yes.

Do I have to have a computer at home to take these classes?
No, however, it would be to your advantage to have a computer with the appropriate software. We do have a vendor that offers the software at a discounted price.

Do I receive a certificate upon completion of the course?
ROP Certification is awarded to students completing with a 90% average or greater. Microsoft Office Specialist Certification is awarded to those who take and pass the Microsoft exam. IC3 Certification is awarded to students who take and pass the IC3 exams.
